I'm having a similar problem, I can play on my laptop fine, but on my desktop I am constantly disconnecting or have 50k ping+ (laptop uses wireless while desktop is wired)
Also, anyone DC when they try to salvage something? Was happening to me today and was happening to people in my alliance and stuff lol

the salv kick is a long known bug, happens to everyone once ina while.
no idea why they havent done anything about it yet.
and when ur having conn problems while using wired (wich should have less lag then wireless), u should check ur router and network settings, cuz something is very wrong !

Long story, shortened - it's most likely a DNS error within your ISP. It should resolve itself soon, but you could search on these forums or on the web for "free DNS" to find a work-around for the problem.

I think I'm having this exact same problem. All official ArenaNet and GW websites "cannot be found" no matter what browser I use, and I cannot connect to play the game (don't even get to the log in screen-- it just "connects" to ArenaNet at 0% indefinitely).
Quaker's solution seems to be leading me in the right direction. When I go to a DNS resolving site and then go to "http://206.127.153.178/" instead of "www.arena.net" it works. So it's some kind of disconnect between the domain name and the IP address?
Buuut... I don't get how to permanently fix this. I can go out of my way to get to the websites in this way, but I still can't access the actual game.
Ugh. Sorry if this is a stupid question. Joined the forum just for this.

If you can find your way around your OS you can follow the instructions in this link:
http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/
This can permanently (but reversibly) change your DNS service to Google's. If necessary, of course, you can get some computer savy friend to help.

Suggestion#1 - tell us more about what you've tried.
#2 - tell us who your ISP is. (Who you get your internet though.)
#3 - tell us what firewall you are using.

Only suggestion atm is to turn off Windows Firewall and see if it then works. If it does, you may want to figure out how to get WF to work properly.
If it doesn't, there's too little info to go on right now. I have heard of cases where an ISP has blocked GW because they thought (from the way it behaves) that it was a file sharing program.
Do you also have the problem of not being able to connect to any guildwars.com sites, or is it only the game that doesn't work?
